The Current Day Frasers...

...were re-established in 1964 as an  historical commemorative initiative during preparations for Expo 67.

An ambitious undertaking by Colonel J. Ralph Harper, with significant support from Colonel David M. Stewart, the Montreal Military and Maritime Museum, then located on St. Helen's Island in Montreal, to re-create the British military contribution to Canada’s bicultural heritage alongside the Companies franches de la Marine.  These two regiments proudly represented the two largest contingents on the Plains of Abraham on the morning of September 13, 1759.

During Canada's 100th Anniversary celebrations at Expo 67, 78th Fraser Highlanders performed military drills and served as an honour guard for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This tradition continues today through summer programs and historical demonstrations that preserve the regiment’s 18th-century heritage in cities throughout the nation.  The Fort St Helen's Garrison in Montreal continues to perform daily shows at Château Ramezay.  The Fort Victoria Garrison sponsors a drill squad who perform at various parades, Highland Games and functions throughout the year.  Fort Calgary Garrison has run a Youth Training Program since 1980.  It is made up of young boys and girls ages to 10 to 18 who are I demand as a pipe band, ceremonial drill squad and perform in their famous 'Fraser Black Powder Musket Show'.

Fort York Garrison in Toronto sponsored the first non Scottish pipe band to compete and win the Grade One World Pipe Band competition in Glasgow Scotland in 1978.  The Fort St. Andrews Garrison in Quebec City sponsor a fabulous pipe band in period correct uniform.  As they reside in a predominantly French community without many pipe bands, their presence is in high demand.  The Fort Fraser Garrison from Vancouver BC sports an adult Drill Squad complete with a fabulous Black Powder Cannon!

There is currently a move afoot to form an active Garrison in both Florida and at Fortress Louisbourg in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Today, the 78th Fraser Highlanders are truly a living page of Canadian history.  Their Garrisons and Outposts continue to promote Scottish heritage, leadership development, and living history throughout North America.
